Jim Wagner is a former soldier, corrections officer, police officer, SWAT officer, diplomatic bodyguard, and recent counterterrorist for the U.S. Government after 9/11. Currently he is a Police Defensive Tactics instructor and the founder of the civilian Reality-Based Personal Protection system taught in several countries. Jim Wagner is credited as the originator of the term "reality-based" for self-defense and has studied numerous combatives systems including Karate Rybu-Kai, Kenpo, Filipino Kali, Wing-Chun, Judo, Aikido, French Savate, Thai Kickboxing, Western boxing, European fencing, Jeet Kune Do, Kung-fu, Greco-Roman wrestling, Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga, Hisardut, KAPAP, and LOTAR, before teaching exclusively his own Reality-Based Personal Protection system.
