How An Accidental “Strongman” Discovery Uncovered The Secret To Developing Bone-Crushing Grip-Strength For Self-Defense And Firearms Training

I don’t want to be mean, but…

From a lot of John Brookfield’s pictures, he doesn’t exactly look like a very “strong” man.

Instead of your typical “strongman” physique with a chest like a whiskey barrel… legs like tree trunks… and shoulders that seem to connect directly to his head in an unnatural way, John looks more like your “Uncle Charlie” who shows up each year at the family picnic with his case of PBR in an old red wagon.

You know what I’m talking about, right?

A bit of a potbelly… frazzled hair… a visible neck…

Sorry John – maybe they’re just really bad photos? 🙁

But for those who know of his reputation… shaking John’s hand is a event to be absolutely feared!

I mean, not only does he hold World Records for his feats of strength in everything from bending nails with his fingers to pulling semi-trucks as far as a mile with nothing but brute force and years of training…

John Brookfield tennis ball rip… but at the Arnold (Schwarzenegger) Classic bodybuilding competition, John astounded attendees and hulking bodybuilders alike when he demonstrated his ability to rip a tennis ball apart with his bare hands – a challenge that even the world’s strongest men have claimed was an absolute impossibility.

In fact, he literally “wrote the book” on grip strength with his, Grip Master’s Manual and his unique training methods have been used by everyone from professional football players to Special Forces and Federal Agents for combatives and firearms training.

But It Was One Accidental Discovery That Took John’s Hand Strength And Power To A Whole New Level, And…

Here’s How A Weird “Upside Down” Hand Exercise Became A Complete Game-Changer For Anyone Who Wants A “Bone Crushing” Grip And The Finger Dexterity Of A World Champion Shooter…

One of the reasons for John Brookfield’s popularity is his never-ending quest to go beyond the common “grip gizmos” everyone else is using for strengthening their hands.

His ability to uncover unique (and sometimes odd) training methods – even using common objects – has made him a legendary icon in the “grip world”.

John Brookfield

For example, in his manual, John shows how to grasp a common hand towel in front of you at one corner and, using only your fingers, roll the towel up until it sits in your hand like a ball.

This exercise alone is enough for most people to get a good “pump” in their hands and forearms… but then John says to attach a kid’s beach pail to the bottom of the towel by a string in order to add weight and really make it an “arm-burner”!

But Then John Stumbled Upon A Simple Trick That Completely Revolutionized His Training…

You see, John had always been a fan of rotating baoding balls in his hands.

Baoding Balls For Grip Training

These small metal balls (often called, “dexterity balls”, “health balls”, or even “kung fu balls”) usually come in pairs and are held in your hand, palms facing up.

The objective is to roll the two balls either clockwise or counterclockwise in your hand using your thumb and fingers as it lightly massages your palm and exercises your fingers.

John wrote extensively about baoding balls in his Grip Masters Manual, claiming that they offer…

…”almost endless potential for increasing your total arm strength and enhancing your dexterity.”

And just as it is with any exercise designed to enhance your performance in any movement, one of the keys is to progressively make the exercise harder as you body starts to adapt to the workload and to keep pushing the limits of your abilities.

So John first started to experiment with rolling the balls in different directions in his palm.

He went on a hunt for any information he could find to use these simple-yet-incredible gadgets to further his training, and came upon a video from China of a man who was even using 3 and 4 balls at the same time.

John Found All Of These New Movements Challenging And A Lot Of Fun To Play With.

But Then The Idea Suddenly Hit Him For A Brand New Move He Hadn’t Tried Before…

This simple, but cutting-edge change was sitting in the palm of his hand (literally), when he asked himself…

What if you rotate the balls as usual, but do the movements with your palms facing down toward the ground instead of your palms facing up?

John instantly knew he was onto something big.

Even though he was already in a class by himself in the strength world, after only a couple of months using the balls with this new method, John’s grip not only reached a strength level higher than he’d ever experienced before, but his hands even looked different – more youthful, “sinewy”, and powerful!

And John Isn’t The Only One Who Saw Rapid Results From This New Move…

One of John’s followers who’s an avid rock climber, “Brent”, experienced this same phenomenon when he took John’s advice…

Unable to workout or use the climbing gym due to an illness, Brent used John’s “upside down” dexterity ball exercise just a few minutes each day for 2 weeks while he was feeling under the weather.

When he recovered from his illness and returned to the gym, Brent was shocked!

The rock “training walls” he usually struggled with were now far easier and faster to navigate.

In fact, his hand and finger strength had improved so much, that he was able to instantly move on to the “hard” walls he could never even attempt before

… and this is after just 2 weeks of no other training than using John’s “upside down” dexterity ball trick!

This didn’t make any logical sense, but it was absolutely true!

The Results Were In – And This Easy Switch With These Simple Gizmos Had Proven Its Power For Taking Anyone’s Hand Strength And Dexterity To A Whole New Level, But…

Here’s One Change You Might Want To Think Of Before You Try This New Move…

The only thing John discovered as a limitation to this exercise is that baoding balls are very smooth and slippery, making them very hard for most people to hold them upside down.

For this, he wrapped them in duct tape so they were easier to manipulate with the fingers.

(BTW, this is why our process of vulcanizing silicone around our patent-pending “Tacti-Balls” makes it so easy for anyone to increase their hand and finger strength and dexterity, by offering a “grippier” feel that’s easy for your fingers to grab onto. You can see how they work here…)

I now use this exercise every day and I can personally vouch for the difference it’s made in all areas of my skill development.

If you want stronger hands for sports or self-defense training… better finger dexterity to master your firearms shooting skills faster than ever… or you just want to be able to open pickle jars with the grip of a gorilla… this simple hand exercise trick is easy to learn and I promise is going to rock your world.

Note: If you own a set of our Tacti-Balls, then you can see this exercise explained in full detail in the training videos that come with your purchase – along with several other easy drills you can use, from beginner to “badass”.

  • Just dry shooting, at least 3 times a week and only about 5 squeezes each time. I could not believe just how accurate I got by doing that.

  • Good information. Thank you. If we go back to the “even using common objects” comment, I have found that golf balls work great for this (first thought of it when recovering from a wrist fracture). Will be interested to see if this gets posted as it may compete for the blue ball sale – but just trying to pass on potentially useful information to the community.
