“Concealed Carry Hero” Saves The Day In Walmart Shooting Spree (3 Lessons)

The second he heard the gunshots from the back of the Tumwater, WA Walmart, David George – a local Pastor – had only one thought…

“Is my family safe?!”

As shoppers began fleeing for their lives, George suddenly saw his daughter and granddaughter sprint past him – out the main doors and into the parking lot – to escape the gunman.

But where was his wife?!

George continued to search for her when he saw the source of the violent rampage…

44 y.o. Tim Day, run past him into the parking lot – armed and carrying boxes of ammunition he had just stolen from the back of the store.

The gunman had already left a path of destruction… and he wasn’t done shooting!

Fortunately, George was a licensed concealed handgun carrier.

This 47-Year Old “CCW Hero” Saved The Day… With MORE Than Just His Gun!

Tim Day Walmart Shooting

It all began just before 5 o’clock on a lazy Father’s Day Sunday afternoon when David George took his wife, daughter, and granddaughter down to the local Walmart to go shopping.

They had split up to make it a quick in-and-out trip of the store, unaware they were shopping at the last stop on a violent felon’s bloody rampage through the small town of only 685 people.

By that time, the suspect (who had a history of domestic violence, felony assault, and death threats) had already…

carjacked one vehicle from a nearby gas station

… drove the wrong way down the highway, crashing into another vehicle

… and shot at multiple vehicles in his path – injuring two people (including a 16 y.o. girl).

Day’s final carjacking led him to the Walmart to shoot his way into the locked ammunition case for “resupply” of his deadly spree.

As he exited the store, he looked for another vehicle to steal.

That’s when he stopped the car of Rick Fievez, accompanied by his wife and son – who were attempting to flee the area.

The gunman didn’t waste any time…

That’s when “Pastor George” Drew His Weapon, And Moved In For A Safe Shot…

George couldn’t see his own family, but knew that they – and every other citizen in the area – were in immediate danger.

With his weapon drawn and a clear backstop, George pulled the trigger, fatally striking the violent gunman who fell to the pavement.

Securing the shooter’s weapon as he now lay unconscious, George instructed another concealed handgun carrier to “cover the shooter” as he lay on the ground.

George (who is also an Emergency Medical Technician with the local fire department) then ran to his car for his medical kit.

You see, the fight still wasn’t over…

While waiting for first responders, George’s second battle was to save the life of the 48 y.o. father who lay there bleeding from two gunshot wounds as his family prayed for him to make it.

George fought to keep the bleeding at bay and ultimately saved Fiez’s life (as well as who knows how many other innocent victims!) and…

Being The “Good Guy With A Gun” Is A Huge Responsibility That Requires MORE Thank Just “Great Shooting Skills” And…

Here Are 3 Lessons EVERY Concealed Handgun Carrier MUST Take Away From This Heroic Response…

1. Re-Think Your “Range Time”

The scenarios most people train for at the range don’t play out like that in real life.

The traditional “your wallet or your life” scenario in a well-lit parking lot that MOST gun owners train for isn’t likely to happen.

In this case, you could have been any one of the other victims this shooter attacked along the way.

You could have been:

  • Driving along the same road you always drive on – when you suddenly see a man in the middle of the road waving a gun at you
  • Grabbing a box of 9mm from the Walmart shelf when the gunman shot into the glass case right next to you
  • Parking your car with your family at the store when the gunman shot twice into your driver’s-side window, paralyzing you – as you pray your wife and son aren’t shot next!

Consider the strangest (yet practical) scenarios you could come face-to-face with… and train for the worst-case gunfight – not just the “best”.

2. Don’t Be The “Bad Guy”

Yes, I realize that YOU are one of those “good guys/gals with a gun”.

You’re a responsibly-armed “protector” like George.

But there was another concealed handgun carrier in this story as well.

Fortunately, he and George had already made contact before the shooting and approached the battle together.

But in the chaos of the shooting spree, walking around with a drawn firearm could make it “look” like YOU are the gunman to others in the area (including responding police).

One way to prevent getting shot yourself is to keep your firearm “drawn, but concealed” as much as possible until you can identify and engage the attacker.

But even then – even after taking him down – you could still be mistaken as a shooter, and in danger of being engaged by mistake – from another gun-carrier or even responding law enforcement.

3. Sometimes “Saving A Life” Happens AFTER The Fight!

Look, gunfights are not nice and clean.

They’re fast… chaotic… and there will likely be other people around who can ALSO be shot.

You yourself could be wounded in the attack… or watch as a family member catches a stray bullet right before your eyes.

Fortunately, this CCW hero was a medically-trained EMT.

George was skilled at saving a life – a skill that was the saving grace for the Fiez family as the mother and son watched George save this father’s life as he lay there bleeding in the parking lot.

Now you DON’T have to be a trained medical professional to be “prepared”.

However…

do you know how to tie a tourniquet to stop a bleeding arm or leg?

If your spouse was shot in the chest, would you know how to keep her breathing as her lung filled with blood?

If your child or grandchild had massive bleeding from their leg and their arm – which would you treat first?

Actually, these medical skills AREN’T that hard to do.

But every second counts!

The important question to ask is…

do you even have the emergency trauma first-aid items you’d need to save your loved one’s life as those precious seconds tick away?!

Fortunately George had a medical kit with him.

For me (and many “guru gun-trainers”), being armed with your concealed firearm is only HALF of your everyday carry responsibility.

I highly recommend you also “gear up” for the possibility of having to perform emergency first aid with a few supplies for after the fight.

Carrying A Weapon Is Only HALF Of The Fight...

Mountain Man Medical Trauma Kit You carry because you refuse to be helpless... But what happens after the attack?
  • What happens if your spouse is bleeding from a home invader's knife wound?
  • What if your child and grandchild takes a round in a parking lot ambush?
  • What happens if 911 is still minutes away - and you are the only "first responder" on the scene of an attack... a vehicle accident... or a "mass casualty" event?

If you carry a gun to protect your family, shouldn't you also carry the gear to save them after the fight?
