The ability to build fire is an obvious survival skill.  You need fir for warmth and also to boil water to make it safe to drink… not to mention for light and for cooking.  But fire, specifically a signal fire, is also critical for alerting rescuers if you find yourself lost or stranded and the situation becomes desperate.
