A lot of people think off-body carry is a bad idea. They point out that you might not have the gun when you need it. Never carry a gun unless it’s on your person, they caution. Carrying in a bag or purse could get you killed, they warn. So are they right?

Is shooting on the move a “fantasy gunfight skill,” or does it really happen? How can YOU better prepare for the reality of a gunfight? In this week’s podcast episode, Modern Combat & Survival’s Jeff Anderson interviews firearms expert Salvatore DeGennaro to answer these questions… and more!

A lot of gun owners are overconfident in their abilities. But a paper target isn’t the same as some street thug ambushing you without warning as you’re putting groceries in the car. To prepare for THIS challenge, you’ve got to train in a way that’s safe… but that’s still going to give you a realistic sense of what it really takes to defend yourself in the chaos of a violent attack.

I was at the outdoor range the other day and I saw a lot of guys rocking single point slings for their assault rifles. A sling helps us to feel all “operator” and can be of benefit in certain scenarios. But would it shock you if I told you… you don’t always need it?

Most people punch holes in paper targets with their firearms… and not much else. This won’t train you to fight off someone who’s trying to KILL YOU. I talked with Garrett Machine about this recently, and here’s what he had to tell me about improving your gun handling under stress.
